Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited is an Indian multinational healthcare group and the first corporate healthcare provider in the country founded in 1983 by Prathap C. Reddy that is headquartered in Chennai. With its unstinting focus on clinical excellence, affordable costs, modern technology and forward-looking research and academics, the Group has emerged as Asia’s foremost integrated healthcare services provider and has a robust presence across the healthcare ecosystem, including hospitals, pharmacies, primary care and diagnostic clinics and several retail health models. Several of Apollo's hospitals have been among the first in India to receive international healthcare accreditation by the America-based Joint Commission International (JCI) as well as NABH accreditation. The organization embraced the rapid advancement in medical equipment across the world, and pioneered the introduction of several breakthrough innovations in India. Recently, South East Asia’s first Proton Therapy Centre commenced operations at the Apollo Centre in Chennai. The Group also has telemedicine facilities across several countries with its pilot project in 2000 at Aragonda, Prathap Reddy's home village. Apollo signed an MoU with Health Education England in April 2017 to provide a large number of doctors to fill vacancies in the English National Health Service. In a rare honor, the Government of India issued a commemorative stamp in recognition of Apollo’s widespread contributions, the first for a healthcare organization. In addition, a stamp was also released to mark the 15th anniversary of India’s 1st successful liver transplant performed at Apollo Hospitals.
